(Updated on 11/07/16)How to update your Htc desire 820 kitkat to lollipop manually.

                             
Hi, friends...
                   Now time comes to upgrade your phone to Lollipop 5.0, So we have a                   Lollipop Ruu, we don't have to go through the Ota update method, So quickly match your phones specifications to following and get prepared to upgrade :-

     NOTICE :- THIS TUTORIAL IS ONLY FOR INDIAN VERSION, Read it carefully and proceed through same as described hence I am not responsible for any damage or brick of your phone.PLEASE MATCH THE FOLLOWING...
                        MODEL CODE            :- A51 DTUL (820U) Dual Sim.
                        CID NO                        :- HTC_38.

      OK, If your phone matches above configuration than consider following two methods as         your phone is stock position or rooted.

              First Method :- This method is for stock rom phones, who have locked bootloader                   with stock recovery but update problem or no software update tab in setting of                         phone. ( Locked bootloader & Non-rooted )
              
               1) Charge your phone upto 80% minimum.
               2) Backups your contacts, apps+data,sms,bookmarks with any backup app.Move                         your important data from internal storage to sdcard.
               3) Download This Lollipop Ruu.
               4) Rename it to 0PFJIMG.zip, Note:-first alphabet is number zero (0) not O for                               orange.
               5) Place the file in root path of external sdcard.
               6) Power off your phone, after 10 second press volume down button along with                             power button to boot into bootloader.
               7) In bootloader, the file automatically detected and start flashing.Now don't mess                       with phone, it will take half hour to fully flashed.
                    
                      Enjoy the Lollipop !!

                 Second Method :- This method for unlocked bootloader, modified and rooted                            phones, So first we have to relock bootloader before update.

                   1) Charge your phone upto 80% minimum.
                   2) Backups your contacts, apps+data,sms,bookmarks with any backup app.Move                         your important data from internal storage to sdcard.
                   3) Relock bootloader with this easy software, or you can use fastboot method.
                   4) Download This Lollipop Ruu.
                   5) Rename it to 0PFJIMG.zip, Note:-first alphabet is number zero (0) not O for                               orange.
                   6) Place the file in root path of external sdcard.
                   7) Power off your phone, after 10 second press volume down button along with                             power button to boot into bootloader.

      @Pritam,

      It's magic of htc ruu.
      No matter what rom you install or rooted your device, if you follow 1st method the ruu flash through all partitions like hboot, boot , recovery, system etc..
      The only condition is that device must locked bootloader, so relock bootloader and follow the post.

    @Pritam,

    How to Disable Driver Signature Enforcement in Windows 8:

    From the Metro Start Screen, open Settings (move your mouse to the bottom-right-corner of the screen and wait for the pop-out bar to appear, then click the Gear icon).
    Click ‘More PC Settings’.
    Click ‘General’.
    Scroll down, and click ‘Restart now’ under ‘Advanced startup’.
    Wait a bit.
    Click ‘Troubleshoot’.
    Click ‘Advanced Options’
    Click ‘Windows Startup Settings’
    Click Restart.

    When your computer restarts, select ‘Disable driver signature enforcement‘ from the list. You can now load your modified driver. Reboot again once the driver is installed and all will be well.

      This update is only for htc desire 820 dual sim(820u)(A-51dtul) Indian region.
      If your device is like as mentioned above, than follow any one method as shown above post.

    I put the file on sdcard, rebooted to boothloader and selected update from sdcard. I got error installation aborted. Do i have to root my phone for it to work?

      No dear friend, you don't have to. The only condition is bootloader must be locked. Maybe your file is corrupted during download.

    hey i have tried both the methods but in first it shows signature verification failed and progress bar is missing while that process
    then I tried second methid but when I go to fastboot its checking thre OPFIMG.zip file and after it ,it shows press power button to reboot instead of vol. up to update

      For first method, I described the process of drivers verification disable in comments, that you can follow.
      For second method, you should manually press vol.up button and then power button to update.

    It show only option:
    Press power button to reboot.
    I pressed vol up + power button but phone reboots normal with no updation.
    I have boot loader "relocked" software status "modified" .
    What should I do??

      I tried the first method but this happens when 990mb file is flashed:
      C:\adb>fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
      target reported max download size of 16777216 bytes
      Invalid sparse file format at header magi

      what is wrong??

      Yes that's it thanks. One more thing, as someone said below. you mentionned to download 2 OTA file's.

      The first will be 70 MB
      The second lollipop update will be about 900 MB

      but there is only 1 file of 990mb zip available to download. can you clarify?

      I all ready said in previous reply, that check in your kernel signature it should be like "a51-dtul " .
      And also tell me is your handset rooted or stock position. If you stuck somewhere than I definitely escape you.

    After trying several times and failing via both methods I successfully updated my device with another method. First I downloaded the OTA from the mega website then rename it to

    "OTA_A51_DTUL_L50_DESIRE_SENSE60_MR_hTC_Asia_India_2.10.720.1_R-1.22.720.10_release_453049.zip"

    After that start downloading OTA on your device till 5-6 mb, now turn off wifi and data, transfer file to Internal Storage Download folder and Copy and replace existing file. Turn on WiFi and voila, your update is now downloaded. It will be verified and flashed.

    Hi Yogesh, I successfully relocked my bootloader. But
    when am trying to update using pc command prompt shows "target reported max download size of 16773120 bytes
    error: cannot load 'firmware.zip': No error"

    when am trying to update using it shows checking..... once it completes then "Press to reboot" highlighted in red.

      As I described previously that this method is only for unrooted and original unmodified Rom, so if the requirements doesn't match than its wouldn't work.
